Nathan A. Masternak grew up in Toledo, Ohio, enjoying mostly drawing during his youth. At the age of 14 he decided to attempt oil painting, and was enrolled in oil painting classes until the age of 15. At the ages of 16 and 17, Masternak was employed by the Young Artists at Work program, which paid young artists to create artwork. It was there that Nate further developed his style, along with his ability to paint with acrylics. From that point on, he worked with artists older than himself; he also established and created many various mural projects for himself.

Nate has worked in the Secor Studios for almost 8 years. He is inspired by both world-renowned artists and artisans that he has known personally. He is also inspired by psychological explorations, the way things come to be in the world, existentialism and emotions.
